October only means one thing in the Fell Running world. It’s relay time. Pick your top eight runners for each category and try and pair them up as best you can. The Hodgson brothers relay is the best Fell Running event of the year with teams coming from all over the country to take part. The event is made up of 4 legs and they’re ran in pairs. Leg 1 is from Patterdale to Hartsop, second leg is from Hartsop to Kirkstone going over High Street, third leg is from Kirkstone to Sykeside going over Red screes and leg 4 goes from Sykeside back to Patterdale over Hart crag.
Keswick AC had 3 teams taking part and the men were hoping to make it 3 wins in a row. Also Keswick had a ladies team, and a vet 40 team. After leg 1 Keswick were in second a minute down on Ambleside. After leg 2 Keswick had taken the lead with Ambleside close behind. After leg 3 Keswick had a 2 minute lead and after leg 4 Keswick came home clear winners on the day. The ladies had a last minute team change in the morning but still came home in 4th place in a competitive field. The vet 40 team were 7th in their category. The men’s team also had 3 of the fastest leg times of the day and the team was made up of Sam Stead, Harry Bolton, James Appleton, John Battrick, Brennan Townshend, Callum Tinnion, Carl Bell and Mark Lamb. Roll on next year and thanks to all the organisers and helpers on the day for putting on another amazing event.
