Last Saturday 58 runners from Keswick Athletic Club rose to the challenge of getting a club member on every Wainwright summit in the day. To our knowledge no club or organisation has achieved this before and it is a testament to the inclusive spirit of the club that so many people of all ages and different capabilities were involved. All the summits were photographed and the Reminder, along with Keswick Bookshop- Bookends, very generously donated Wainright maps and guidebooks to members who supplied the best pictures.
Everyone had tales to tell by the end of the day, some having had lovely outings in familiar places and others visiting fells they had never been to or going by unusual routes. Charlie Bradshaw covered twelve summits and Claire Warner managed all her designated tops despite spending a long time giving first aid to an injured walker near Haystacks. Whether we were alone, with family, or in small groups there was amazing feeling of looking round and knowing there be Keswick AC runners on every top during the day, a real sense of connection. It was brilliant to have Cathy Collam involved. Cathy a long-time fell runner who unfortunately sustained spinal injuries in an accident went up Black Fell. Keswick Athletic Club are very proud of all their members from those who represent their country in International competition to those who love being involved and the juniors too of course. This was a great celebration of the club spirit and the generous prizes from the Reminder and Bookends were much appreciated – thankyou.
