Every year the club gets 2 spots for the Virgin London Marathon. All KAC members are invited to apply with an application for why they should be picked.

Places which will be awarded according to the following criteria.
(a) Have applied unsuccessfully by direct ballot,
(b) Haven’t had a club entry before and
(c) Have made a significant contribution to the running of the club (e.g marshalling at races)
(d) Any other relevant supporting information.
Please note if you don’t meet all the criteria don’t be afraid to apply as it’s not often that both places are filled by those who meet all the criteria.

There were 3 applicants in 2019, the lucky two were Ella Scott and Nic Wiseman, these were there applications:

Nic Wiseman
I’m not sure if I’d be allowed to apply for one of the club’s London Marathon places, being on the committee. I did apply through the ballot. I can forward my rejection email, if you need it. I’m on the committee, sending out and writing stories for the press and the website. I marshalled at Helvellyn and the Dodds race and helped fill water bowsers after the DW10 after I had run it. I also look after the junior Parkrun which is just about to celebrate its first birthday.
If I were to gain a place, I would raise money for MS to help Duncan and Yvonne Booth who are big volunteers at junior Parkrun.
Oh I did 4:07 in my last marathon and would be aiming for sub-4 at London.
Hope that’s ok, Nic
Ella Scott
I would like to put forward my name for one of the club places for the Virgin London Marathon 2019.
I fulfil the criteria of applying unsuccessfully by direct ballot; have never had a club entry; and contribute to the club by marshalling several times a year, sitting on the committee, and leading the Wednesday Girls group.
Since “discovering” running and completing Couch to 5k in October 2012, I watch in awe each April as people of all abilities complete the VLM. I get so caught up in the atmosphere that I enter the ballot and then spend several months stressing in case I get a place as it would take me SO far out of my Keswick comfort zone. This year however, was different – I’ve trained hard, completed my first marathon at Kielder, and am working even harder on my positive mental attitude – starting with the giant leap of applying for a club place which I previously haven’t felt worthy of!
If I was to be successful, the VLM would be a great chance to attempt the Club road standards . . . and I certainly never thought I’d utter those words!!
Many thanks for your consideration,
Ella
