The Northern Irish leg of the British Championship took place in Newcastle, Co. Down on Saturday. The Mourne Highline has grassy climbs, rocky descents and airy ridges. The route is 15.3km and includes 1,300m of ascent. 

The Spring weather was sorely lacking  and the clag well and truly present as 285 runners headed into the fog. The first few peaks were easy to find due to the Mourne Wall, but it was the descent of Commedagh that flummoxed a few.

Rhys Findlay-Robinson of Dark Peak Fell Runners made the early pace, but was soon relieved by Joshua Jardine of Helm Hill in Kendal. Keswick’s Carl Bell finished in ninth place, after taking a rather longer route round. James Appleton and John Battrick finished in 11^th and 12^th places respectively. Other Keswick AC runners to compete were: Mark Lamb (16^th place), Sam Stead (who was just back from injury, 18^TH), Dan Haworth (37^th), Chris Edis (48^th), Steve Hebblethwaite (71^st), Phil Winskill (72^nd), Lee Newton (94^th), Craig Marsh (109^th), Jacob Tonkin (123^rd), Steve Halsall (213^th). 

In the women’s race, Jasmin Paris (Carnethy) came first. Keswick women who competed were: Kerry Cornforth, Jenn Mattinson, Rachel Findlay-Robonson, Zoe Webber and Victoria Haworth.

Yarlside Downhill – The Kendal Winter League Yalrside downhill was run on Sunday, Keswick AC’s Owen Mills finished in joint 5^th place with a time of 7:50.
