“The average life of a running shoe on our feet is 4 -6 months, if sent to landfill they then hang around for a further 11,994 months before starting to decompose.”

Alongside shoes, the amount of other kit such as clothes ending up at landfill is quite alarming, damaging the already stressed out planet we live in.

Kong Adventure / Running in Keswick are offering to recycle your old kit…

Being in the business of selling outdoor kit and having a passion on a personal level about the environment around us, we realise that we can do better at taking responsibility for this world and making positive steps in creating a better one. We are therefore pleased to say that we’ll now be supporting ReRun Clothing to help try and make a difference.

See below how you can get involved!

But first, a little bit about ReRun Clothing… ReRun Clothing is a Community Interest Company aimed at prolonging the life of running clothes, shoes and equipment, and save them from landfill. Founded and run by Dan Lawson, Team GB 24hr Ultra runner (plus recent LEJOG extraordinaire) and his wife and family Charlotte, Lilly and Ruby, they take in a whole range of items to upcycle, recycle and pass on to be reused. Any clothing in need of repair or upcycling they work on, for example finishers tees are upcycled or given to refugee projects. ReRun has recently set up a shoe bank, the shoes and clothing from which support charities, individuals and organisations helping people facing difficulties and in need of sports kit. Find out more about ReRun at www.rerunclothing.org

So, a call to everyone! Kong Running is now your place to drop off old and unwanted running/outdoor gear which we will collect then send to ReRun to be repurposed and saved from landfill. Just come by our shop on Heads Road, Keswick* with your kit (having preferably given it a decent enough clean first). Items can be in varying states of wear and condition, so even if they have done their fair share of adventure you may still part ways happy that they can go on to do further good stuff. Clearly, please follow all the Covid-19 restrictions at any time. *In this lockdown period, you can drop off Monday-Friday 9:30am-4pm.
