The last Championship race of the year was a short counter with 3 steep climbs and a lot of running with the last 1.5 miles flattish and fast. Keswick had some great results with Mark Lamb winning, John Battrick second, and Steve Hebblethwaite having another great run to finish 4th in a competitive field. David Birch finished first over 50 and Mike Mallen finished 3rd vet 60 which clinched him the silver medal in his age category. Mark Lamb has clinched silver in the English Championship with his great victory and adds to his 3rd place in the British championship. Mark Lamb has had a great season and has had some brilliant results, improving on the long races which sets him up great for next season. In the ladies race Sharon Taylor of Helm Hill won the event.  Keswick’s Jenn Bell got her best result of the season coming in 5th place. That now puts Jenn into a top ten finish in the English Championships which is a great individual achievement. The Keswick ladies team just missed out on a bronze medal.  Keswick’s Zoe Webber climbed really well in the race and finished in 16th. Zoe has done a lot of long races this year but proved she’s got better over all the distances with this result. Keswick’s men’s and ladies teams will next be competing in the October relays. The first one is the Hodgson Brothers relay in Patterdale and then on to the British Fell relays which are in the Peak District this year.
