Statement from Chair of Keswick Athletic Club

It is with regret that I have to announce that Keswick Athletic Club have cancelled all club races planned for 2020 until further notice.

This is not a decision we have taken lightly but given the serious situation facing the UK over coming months and the governmental measures to limit the impact of the Covid-19 coronavirus, it is one we feel compelled to take.

An extraordinary meeting of the club committee took place on 15th March and it was unanimously agreed that all races would be cancelled from this date. The impact of social distancing advice, the cancellation of large gatherings, the potential of spreading the virus to the most vulnerable in society, and the need to reduce burden on medical and emergency services were all considered in coming to this decision

The club will continue to promote our sport and will look an innovative ways of maintaining competition, possibly through the use of GPS tracking apps and other means to hold virtual races – so watch this space. If it becomes possible to resume racing later in the year then we will look to do so.

We understand that many people will be very disappointed by this decision but would ask you understand that we have acted in what we believe to be the best interests of all.
